Qualcomm announces new processors

The Snapdragon 820 has siblings, Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon 625, 435 and 425.

These new processors are designed to deliver some of the latest premium-tier user experiences, using custom-developed technology including camera, video, gaming and connectivity, to the broader smartphone ecosystem” said Qualcomm in a press release. Which basically means a lot of mid-range phones are going to get a lot of great features top-range phones already enjoy.

The 625 is the more eye-opening of the three, with what’s on offer mid-range phones will be a new kind species. Offering a 14 nm, octa-core processor, promising a 35% reduction in power usage. It will also have an X9 modem with download speeds of 150 Mbps, three times faster than than traditional LTE services. The snapper gets a major boost as well, with the 625 supporting up to 24 megapixels, 13 megapixel selfie cams and 4K video recording. PC class graphics are supported with the Adreno 506 on-board.

The 435 also has an octa-core processor with up to 300 Mbps download speed, due to integrating the X8 LTE modem. Upload speed is up to 100 Mbps and high resolution cameras up to 21 megapixels are supported.  Graphics are supported with Adreno 505 for quality PC-like gaming.

The entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 comprises a 64-bit, quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, an Adreno 308 GPU, and HD display at 60fps, and supports cameras up to 16MP. A chip targeted solely at smartphones for emerging markets such as India and China.
