Potential specs for the LG G3 Mini leak, are rather underwhelming

We loved the LG G3 when we got our hands on it at the official London launch at the end of May, so naturally we’ve been keeping a close eye out for the inevitable Mini edition. What with the flagship model featuring an enormous 5.5-inch display, this is one scaled-down handset that could really serve a purpose.

With that said, you can imagine our excitement when we see that the specs for a potential LG G3 Mini may well have leaked. Zauba is an Indian import and export site, which lists the technical specifications of all of the hardware passing through it. A device coded ‘LGD722′ recently showed up, and if we go by LG’s usual technical naming process (the G3 is called the D855) then it stands to reason that this unit is indeed the G3 Mini.

In truth though, we’re kind of hoping it’s not. Here are the few specifications which are listed: a 4.5-inch display, 2,100mAh battery, 5-megapixel camera, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB internal storage.

Yes, the 4.5-inch display is a very nice size to have (finally something capable of rivalling the Xperia Z2 Compact!), and a 2,100mAh is standard fare. However, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor is  rather uninspiring. That said, we won’t write it off until we get to try it out, as the HTC One Mini 2 boasts a similar chipset and it’s shaping up to be a rather nice handset.

The 5-megapixel camera is thoroughly upsetting, though. What with the camera on the G3 being such a big part of what made it so appealing, with its razor-sharp images and lightning-quick focus speeds, it seems odd that LG would take such a drastic turn away from it for its miniature.

Of course there’s a chance these specs may not be final, despite Zauba’s strong track record. We’ll have to wait and see to what effect all of these details combine in the final product – and of course how much it will cost.
