Original Hudl gets big price cut as Tesco makes way for new Hudl2

Tesco wants to get rid of its remaining Hudl tablets as it makes room for the release of the new Hudl2.

The original Hudl has consequently received a big price cut, bringing it down to the insanely budget price of just £79.

The Hudl, which was released last year for £119, came packing a 7inch HD display, a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which was expandable via the microSD card slot. Overall, it remains a reliable entry-level device – ideal for first-tie and younger users. The only downside was its weak 3MP rear camera and an outdated version of Android, 4.2 Jelly Bean, out of the box. The Hudl also came packing plenty of retail-oriented Tesco apps.

Tesco announced its new Android tablet and the successor to the original Hudl – the Hudl2 – last week.

The new Hudl2 from Tesco is out now and costs £129

Like everyone else, we were impressed by the budget slate’s mid-range specs, which come at the fraction of the price of its rivals. At £129 the new tablet will launch for a slightly higher price, but it will also boast improved specs – including  an 8.3 inch full HD display (1.3 inches larger than its predecessor), a 1.83 GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor, a 5MP rear camera and a 1.2 MP front camera. Additionally, you’ll get 16GB of storage and a microSD card slot for expandable space. The Tesco Hudl2 is now available online from the retailer’s website.

With the tablet market slowing down this year, Tesco will have a hard time emulating the success of its first tablet the second time round. The original Hudl sold 750,000 units. Keeping its devices exclusively to itself, the retail giant will be hoping Christmas shoppers will add it to their seasonal shopping list when popping in to their local Tesco.
