Oppo R9 is Androids answer to the iPhone 6

Oppo has today unvelied the R9 and R9 Plus, two devices that look suspiciously similar to the iPhone 6.

We’ve had a few companies in the past who have released devices that bear a very close resemblance to Apple’s handsets. The ZTE Blade S6 and HTC One A9 were both somewhat ridiculed for their similar design language and now we have another to add to the mix. The Oppo R9 and R9 Plus appears to move even closer to Apple’s design language, with a corner positioned camera that slightly protrudes and colour choices so similar that it made our eyes do a double take. In fact, aside from the slight re-positioning of the flash and some subtle changes to the antenna lines, you could be forgiven for thinking it was the same device… If it wasn’t for that huge Oppo logo on the back.

Inside, performance is about what you’d expect for an Oppo device, meaning mid-range but not really anything exceptional. The 5.5-inch version includes the Helio P10 and 4GB RAM, the latter of which is a generous amount. The 6-inch version includes a Snapdragon 652 and 4GB RAM. Both have 1080p panels and 16 megapixel Sony IMX 298 sensors for the rear camera, while the R9 Plus has a stunning 4120mAh battery thrown in for good measure. Considering the R9 Plus is only 7.4mm thick, that is one hell of an achievement. Oppo is also including their VOOC fast charging technology on both devices, allowing a 75% charge in only 30 minutes.

Operating system of choice is Android 5.1.1, which is not the latest version. However, you will get the newest version of Color OS, which again looks very iPhoney.

It’s worth noting that we will probably never see either of these devices in the UK, since Apple will probably come down on them like a ton of bricks. Still, they are nonetheless very pretty devices.
