OnePlus X is now invite free forever

OnePlus CEO Carl Pei has announced the OnePlus X will be invite free from now on.

It took OnePlus just 92 days to to ditch the invite system after going on sale. Over three months is a long time but compared to it’s predecessor this was short. The OnePlus One took 362 days to do it and the OnePlus 2 did better with 180 days.

Plenty of us will be glad to see the back of the invite system, we can expect OnePlus’ next device to have an even shorter time on the invite system, or even have it done away completely.

The invite system did do a good job in generating hype, as many smartphone lovers hunted down invites to get their hands on OnePlus’ powerful yet cheap devices. OnePlus seem to be maturing at the perfect time as competition is getting better. The invite system would have held them back in the long run.
