People have often hooked up through music, and French dating app Happn has found a way to capitalise on this.
Happn has added a new feature to the app that allows users to flirt with others using Spotify songs. You can also display your favourite tune on your profile to show a potential crushes how hip and trendy you really are. Of course, it could have the opposite effect and potential dates could be turned off by your George Michael or Rod Stewart collection.
Every users’ profile will have this feature, even if you don’t have a Spotify account. Spotify premium members can listen to full tracks, whilst non-premium members are limited to 30-second clips.
“Music is such a powerful form of expression that is intrinsically linked to our personalities,” said Didier Rappaport, Co-Founder and CEO of Happn. “We believe that this new Spotify feature provides our users with a unique experience that really allows them to showcase who they are in a more emotive way, beyond just words and photos.”
There is no plan to connect users based on their music tastes, however. “Love is much more complex than that,” says Rappaport.
What is Happn?
Happen differs from Tinder and Grindr because it uses you location data to find potential matches. You’re connected with people you’ve crossed paths with each day and it keeps a running tally of how many times you’ve been near each other. You can only take to the other person if you both like each other, however.
Happn is available in 20 cities across the globe, including London, and is available on both iOS and Android.
