Stockport-based company, musicMagpie, has launched what it anticipates to be a huge fundraising initiative to raise cash for the ‘NHS Charities Together’ scheme, as the NHS continues to front the nation’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus.
From today, the company which started life as a ‘cash for CDs, DVDs, books and games’ business and now exists as the UK’s biggest mobile phone recycler, will donate £1 for every single item of consumer tech it purchases from its customers. It will also donate another £1 for each refurbished tech item sold on its online store.
Its customers will also be given the option to donate the whole value musicMagpie offers for their unwanted items to the same NHS Charities Together scheme, whether it be consumer tech or CDs, DVDs, books and games. This will allow every single customer to participate in the scheme if they wish.
Consumer tech items customers are able to trade in and donate the proceeds for if they choose, including mobile phones, laptops, game consoles, tablets, wearables and more.
In addition to a range of drop-off options at essential retailers including Post Office branches and convenience stores, musicMagpie will also offer a free home collection service for tech items valued under £200, so that customers don’t have to leave their homes to trade their items in if they don’t want to. All of its courier collections will also be conducted in a safe and contact-free manner.
Steve Oliver, CEO of musicMagpie, commented: “After the government declared last week that online retail was remaining open and was to be encouraged, we are extremely focused on helping our customers work and stay connected from home, whilst also offering them the ability to raise much-needed cash for their old consumer tech products and physical media. But as a business, we also want to do what we can to support and say thank you to the wonderful NHS workers, who are the real heroes fighting this battle for us every day on the front line.”
“We are incredibly proud to be launching this initiative, which means an awful lot to so many of our colleagues at musicMagpie that want to be able to get behind and thank their heroic family, friends and neighbours who are working for the NHS during this time, but also to show appreciation for everything they’ve done before now and will go on to do in the future.”
“We are confident this scheme will allow us to raise a significant sum both through our own donations per item bought and sold, but also from our customers donating their sale proceeds to this fantastic cause if they choose.”
The scheme will run for a minimum period of three months, with the business hoping to raise close to £250k in that time.
