Another Chinese manufacturer has entered the fray and produced an affordable flagship with blistering specifications.
Meizu may not be a name you’ve heard of before but you might want to add them to your calendar. Looking like a Samsung Galaxy S6 spliced with an iPhone 6 but with the rear of a HTC One M9 (quite a mouthful I know), the company has taken the best aesthetic traits of all the flagships and thrown them together into a frankenstein device.
The Meizu MX5 comes with a full 1080p HD 5.5-inch AMOLED display, 3GB RAM and a Mediatek helio X10 64-bit octa-core 2.2GHz CPU. It also uses Android version 5.0 with a custom Flyme OS. There’s a reversible USB-C connector on-board as well as the obligatory fingerprint sensor.
Meizu has also claimed that the MX5 takes advantage of a new quick-charge function, allowing it to charge its battery to 25% in just 10 minutes. A further 40% can be achieved in just 40 minutes.
The camera is equally as impressive, with a 20.7MP Sony sensor that uses a custom blue film to increase colour accuracy. The 1/2.3” sensor size and f2.0 aperture are also great specs, making this camera sound like it should be a great performer.
While the price hasn’t been announced, you can guarantee it won’t be particularly expensive when compared with western flagships. Expect it to be available online-only.
