Korean tech giants LG will release the first smartphone to support DAB+.

While the majority of  smartphones released nowadays support music streaming and even FLAC files for downloaded music. We still see devices launched with FM radio support, particularly in emerging markets. This is because FM radio doesn’t consume data, storage and much battery, compared to streaming Spotify using data allowance.

DAB+ isn’t new technology, it isn’t used everywhere in the world, which is why the US will not be seeing release of the LG Stylus 2, as the US adopted HD Radio standard. DAB+ has been take up across Europe with the UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway and Australia to be the first countries to receive the Stylus 2.

The Stylus 2 will feature a 5.7 inch IPS LCD screen, 1 watt speaker, and 3,000 mAh battery capacity. There will be a quad-core processor with 15GB of RAM. 16GB of internal memory will be included, on the snapper 16 megapixels and the front-facing 8 megapixels. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
