Lenovo has unveiled the fifth generation Moto G5 and G5 Plus in Barcelona ahead of Mobile World Congress today (February 26).
Both feature aluminium bodies, quite a feat considering price and a departure from the plastic build last seen on the G4/ G4 Plus. Android 7.0 Nougat and Google Assistant will run straight out of the box. The Moto G5 is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 and ships with 2 or 3GB of RAM. It has a full HD five inch IPS LCD display made from Corning Gorilla Glass. Onboard is 16GB or 32GB of internal memory upgradeable via microSD up to 128GB. It also packs a removable 2,800mAh battery and fingerprint sensor on the front. A 13 megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus is bolted on the back capable of HDR. A five megapixel front camera accompanies. Dual SIM and front-mounted fingerprint sensors are present in both smartphones.
Moto G5 Plus
The Moto G5 Plus takes things up a notch, with a larger 5.2-inch full HD IPS display. It uses a more powerful 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625, coming in 2 and 4GB RAM versions. Internal memory is higher on this model, with 32 or 64GB options available. Despite having a lower 12 megapixel sensor on the G5 Plus, Lenovo has thrown in plenty of new tech to make up for this. The rear camera now utilises ‘dual autofocus pixels’ which according to Lenovo this means the camera has ten times more pixels on the sensor and focus on subjects 60 per cent faster. The effective pixel size is now 1.4µm pixels versus 1.3µm found on last years model. It also has a much higher f/1.7 aperture lens for better low light snaps. The Moto G5 Plus has a non-removable 3,000mAh battery with turbo charging, that Lenovo claims will last six hours after just 15 minutes charge time.
