John Lewis has announced that it will begin selling smartphones for the first time, opening up numerous stores across the UK.

The department store giant believes that the collapse of Phones 4 U has left a void within the marketplace. The company will now open two trial stores in Oxford Street in London and Cheadle Manchester, which specialise in selling mobile devices. If the trial proves successful, there are plans to open numerous stores across the country.

The company plans to differentiate itself within the market by offering free services to customers. When purchasing a device in-store, insurance and two-year warranties on all handsets will be provided free of charge, including Apple iPhones.
