The Sony Xperia Z2 may still only have a limited availability within the UK due to manufacturing issues, but we now already have confirmation of an upcoming miniature version. Just as the Xperia Z1 has the absolutely fantastic Xperia Z1 Compact, the Xperia Z2 will have the Xperia A2.
At least that’s what it’s been named as by Japanese mobile network NTT DoCoMo. The carrier is now taking pre-orders, which means that we’ve got some lovely visuals and all of the specs on a device which has an awful lot of potential.
The Xperia A2 features a 4.3-inch 720p LCD Triluminos display, a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 20.7 MP rear camera. Whilst these are certainly nice specs, they’re actually identical to those found on the Xperia Z1 Compact. The only difference seems to be that the Xperia A2 is fractionally larger, with dimensions of 128 x 65 x 9.7mm compared to 127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm.
The Xperia A2 is also IP-58 certified, meaning it’s water resistant up to three metres for half an hour, although it can’t shoot 4K video. It also comes in four colours – white, grey black, lavender and orange.
All in all this seems like a distinctly odd choice from Sony, and if this truly is the compact edition of the Xperia Z2 then we’ll surely not be the only ones left feeling that way. We’ll be sure to keep you updated once we know for sure when (or if) it will be hitting UK shores.
