iPhone electrocutes man in China

The Beijing Evening News has released a story claiming that a 30 year old man has been in a coma for 10 days after being electrocuted by his Apple device.

Wu Jiantong is undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment in an effort to prevent brain damage and the Chinese newspaper reported that he is now able to breathe on his own.

The news comes just days after reports emerged that another Chinese national, flight attendant Ma Ai Lun, had been killed, apparently by being electrocuted when she answered her iPhone 5 while it was charging.

Local conditions may have played a role in both incidents. Know Your Mobile reports that Ai Lun was electrocuted when she answered her handset after getting out of the bath and in the case of Jiantong the high humidity in his apartment may have been responsible for the accident rather than a technical fault in the device.

Apple have not made any official statement on either of the incidents aside from saying they will cooperate with the Chinese authorities in the investigations.
