Instagram has launched its very own music account today – the first time it’s launched another official account.

The photo-sharing app launched its @music account today which it says will be “exploring music, those who create it, and the community around it in a very visual way.”

Instagram said: “@music will cover all facets of the musical experience: from stars to up-and-comers; from session players to the most passionate fans; from instruments to lyrics, the studio to the stage.”

Instagram @music posts

The account will make six posts a week, including categories like #LocallySourced (unsigned acts), #DoubleTrack (what artists like outside of music) and #15SecondLesson (brief music lesson videos).

Instagram has launched the account because it says musicians run one quarter of its most popular accounts, and that it wants to explore that community.

Posts from the official Instagram blog will compliment the page. This post from drummer and DJ Questlove is just one example. The new @music page can be found here.
