The Xperia 5 will be available in blue, black and grey
Sony Mobile has unveiled the Sony Xperia 5 smartphone as the latest device in its flagship Xperia series.
The Xperia 5 was revealed during a launch event at IFA in Berlin, with the smartphone effectively a more compact version of the Xperia 1 according to Sony Mobile Communications president Mitsuya Kishida.
Sony has confirmed that customers can pre-order the Xperia 5 from September 18, with the phone due to ship in the UK from October 4.
Featuring a 6.1-inch full HD OLED display, the Xperia 5 comes with a 21:9 CinemaWide display and includes a triple lens camera.
The triple camera includes 12MP sensors with a 16mm lens for super-wide angle shots, plus a 26mm versatile lens and 52mm portrait and tele lens.
Other features include a 3,140mAh battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, with the Xperia 5 coming with Android 9 Pie.
The Xperia will be available in a choice of three colours; blue, black and grey.
www.comparemymobile.com expert Rob Baillie questions whether the Xperia 5 will be strong enough for Sony to compete in an already saturated market.
“The new Sony Xperia 5 is said to deliver a compelling experience for consumers and, whilst the specifications include an advanced triple 12 megapixel camera, it does have us questioning as to how different it really is to any of the phones launched recently and whether Sony can compete against such fierce competition from larger, ubiquitous brands such as Apple and Samsung.”
