Huawei Honor 6 now available in Europe exclusively through Amazon

Although it was unveiled back in June and has been available in China for several months now, Huawei has kept its lip sealed on a global release date for its latest flagship, the Honor 6. Until now, that is.

The stunning Android smartphone is now available exclusively through Amazon in Europe for a very attractive asking price of £250. Trust us, that’s cheap for a flagship.

If you’re still on the fence, perhaps a rundown of the specs will prove how much bang you’ll get from your buck. The Huawei Honor 6 comes with a 5-inch full HD display (1920 x 1080 pixels) with an impressive 445ppi. The handset weighs just 130g and measures in at 7.5 mm thin, which is slightly bulkier than the Huawei Ascend P7 (6.5mm) and Sony Xperie Z3 (7.3mm).

The Honor 6 comes packing Huawei’s own chipset, the octa-core Kirin920, which combines a quad-core Cortex A15 1.7 GHz with a quad-core Cortex A7 1.3 GHz. To make use of all that power is a excessive 3GB of RAM and 16GB and 32GB worth of storage, with additional space available via the device’s microSD card slot. So far, so good.

In terms of a camera, the Honor 6 contains a standard 13MP lens on the rear of the device and an above-average 5MP snapper on the front (similar to what we saw on the Nokia Lumia 735). If you’re a fan of the Huawei’s software, you’ll be glad to hear that the Honor 6 gives its Android kitKat 4.4 OS a fresh lick of paint via the firm’s EmotionUI.

Staying with Android, it is uncertain at this point when the Honor 6 will receive Android Lollipop. Seeing as so many handsets have announced that they’ll be receiving the update before the year’s end – including the Sony Xperia Z3 and Motorola Moto G and Moto X – you would think that Huawei would aim to do the same. However, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Currently, the Amazon page for the Honor 6 states that the device is temporarily out of stock. That may be due to the fact that it is launching as of now in Berlin. Therefore, it should be available at some point today from the e-retailer.

Again, we must reiterate that it costs just £250. Along with the OnePlus One, the Honor 6 shows that overseas manufacturers (especially those based in China) are bringing the retail innovation they introduced to their domestic market to the West. Just a year ago, it would have been ridiculous to think a flagship phone with these kind of specs would be available for less than £400. Let’s just hope that other well-known manufacturers follow suit.
