We rated the HTC One M8 the best smartphone on the market in the May issue of What Mobile magazine, so it’s no wonder news of a new affordable plastic version of the handset has piqued our interest.

And with rumours that the new handset known as the HTC M8 Ace could be hitting UK stores soon, we have a feeling you will be interested too.

So, here’s what we know so far;   the new phone  will rock a unibody plastic design, replacing the One M8’s aluminium shell, but will retain most of its predecessor’s awesome specs – including a 5-inch 1080p screen.

The HTC M8 Ace will also boast plenty of power, with a quad-core 2.5GHz SnapDragon 801 processor stuffed inside. And while other spec details haven’t been leaked just yet, we’d expect to see the Ultrapixel camera make a return too.

A leaked image of the rumoured smartphone, which was leaked earlier this month by @evleaks, can be seen below:

Perhaps HTC is going down the iPhone 5C route here by shaving off a few pounds by way of design and storage, without detracting from the glorious One M8 experience.

Other HTC rumours include the release of the HTC One M8 Mini, which was listed by a Swedish carrier as recently as the end of March.

Would you be tempted by an affordable version of the One M8, or is it metal or nothing? Let us know in the comments below.
