HTC One wins best smartphone of 2013 at Global Mobile Awards

The HTC One has been named the Best Smartphone of 2013 at the Global Mobile Awards, which took place at Mobile World Congress earlier today.

The device, launched in February 2013, won the award despite being trounced by Samsung and Apple products in the sales market.

Meanwhile, the Nokia Lumia 520 took home the prize for Best Low Cost Smartphone, and the soon-to-be Microsoft-owned manufacturer also won the Best Entry Level or Feature-phone prize for the Nokia 105.

LG was recognised as the Most Innovative Device Manufacturer of the Year at the GSMA’s awards’ ceremony hosted by actor James Corden. Apple’s iPad Air was named as Best Mobile Tablet.

CityMapper, the public transport navigation app for London, New York, Paris and Berlin, was named Best Overall Mobile App in a fiercely contested category.

Other notable winners included Best Mobile Health Product or Service awarded to the Energize the Chain for Econet Wireless Vaccine Project in Zimbabwe.

Best NFC/Mobile Money Transfer Product or Service went to Telenor Pakistan & Tameer Micro Finance Bank, for Easypaisa’s money transfer service.
