Homegrown Google chips could be a thing

Remember when Google was just a search engine? We know it’s hazy, ever since the company has expanding to other websites, phone operating systems and its very own handsets. Now it could be looking at its own homegrown chips to power devices.

Bloomberg reports that Google might produce its own ARM-based custom server processor, similar to the tech inside Android phones. If true, then the company wouldn’t be anywhere near as reliant as it currently is on Intel x86 processors. It could also give the company much greater freedom over hardware creation.

Apple took this route a few years back – we wouldn’t be surprised to see Google follow suit with its own homegrown chips.
