Announced a strategic alliance between Garmin Ltd and ASUSTeK Computer Inc, the joint venture will see the official launch of the nuviphone G60 at Mobile World Congress on February 16th-18th in Barcelona.

The converged device will offer the best in-car navigation solution, slotting into a windscreen mount and operating exactly like other models in the nuvi range (turn-by-turn, voice prompted features, Points of Interest etc). However, when removed from the vehicle it functions an ordinary mobile phone, with smartphone capabilities. With its mobile connectivity, users can also access live POIs by searching on the Internet.

There will also be a new feature called ‘Ciao!’, a social networking application that bridges the gap between multiple location based social networks and integrates them seamlessly into one device.

The full specifications will be available shortly.
