Galaxy Beam projector phone debut at MWC

Kickstarting the surprises at MWC this week, and confirming that Samsung has more to shout about than a new Galaxy S device, is the Samsung Galaxy Beam.

The Galaxy Beam features a built-in projector, throwing images onto white walls, offering a 50 inch picture for videos and photos. The micro projector market isn’t new – the technology has been around for a few years – but this is the first time it’s been squezed into a device as small by a company as big as Samsung.

Naturally, there’s a massive 2000 mAh battery for the power hungry projector and Samsung are aiming the Galaxy Beam at students and gamers according to the launch blurb. Running Gingerbread 2.3 and featuring a 4 inch screen, the Galaxy Beam goes beyond the gimmicky 3D many were expecting from a new Samsung phone. It’s a smarter move than the poorly recieved attempts at 3D by LG and HTC during last year.

The Galaxy Beam features a chunky 6GB of RAM, an average 8GB of internal storage space but features the standard MircoSD card slot, allowing you to pack a healthy 32GB of movies on a memory card. In real terms, that’s around 5 HD movies or around 15 standard definition movies.

There’s no price or UK release details just yet but watch this space – and check out the full specs below.
