Full-metal Xperia is around the corner

A new full-metal Xperia smartphone has appeared in excellent quality images, not long after the Xperia X was revealed and launch.

We just got used to the Xperia X, which was just announced at Mobile World Congress this year. Sony seem to be carrying on an old practice, by releasing another flagship device soon after the last one. We could perhaps be seeing a new Sony device at IFA in Berlin.

The new full-metal Sony Xperia device is codenamed Xperia F8331. Showing off a design that is distinctly Sony, with a rectangular body shape and smooth chamfered edges. It would be an interesting new design direction that Sony will be taking yet again, after departing in body material for the Z5 and Xperia X.

The change is quite clear on the back of the device with light reflecting off it. It seems to be a brush metal finish, potentially Sony’s first attempt at a premium metal device. A glass back was featured on the Z5 and plastic for the Xperia X.

Another first for Sony is seen on the bottom of Xperia F8331, a USB-C port is present, strengthening USB-C’s claim to be the new charging and data transferring standard for all Android flagships (now if Samsung just followed suit).

Full-metal Xperia in the Autumn?

Rumours are pointing to the return of the full HD screen, an option that Sony seem to be sticking with for the time being since the ‘4K screen’ debacle on the Z5 Premium. Returning too is the front-facing stereo speakers and NFC capability. Good news for those that bought new earphones, the 3.5mm jack is also present.

The photos look too good to be a fake but then there’s always the possibility of that being the case. However if Sony continue with their practice of launching a new flagship every few months, a substantial leak like this makes sense.
