The follow-up to the company’s best selling phone of all time, the Motorola Moto G is back

One of the best reviewed, best selling and best loved smartphones of all time is back. A sequel to the Motorola Moto G is now on sale in the UK.

Motorola’s best selling device of all time, the Moto G gained such massive popularity in no small part due to the unbelievable value of the device. It managed to offer decent specs for an incredibly low price, and, most importantly of all, it provided a wonderful Android experience. Slick and simple, its near-stock approach is favoured by many.

When we reviewed the original Moto G we really only had two criticisms: there wasn’t enough storage space and the camera wasn’t quite on the same level as the rest of the device. Care to take a guess at the two areas the new Moto G has most improved?

The second-generation Moto G has expandable storage, thanks to a microSD card slot. It only supports cards up to 32GB in size, but there’s a 16GB variant of the handset available on top of the 8GB model.

Then, there’s the camera. The rear-snapper has been bumped up from 5MP to a more respectable 8MP, whilst the front-facing lens is up from 1.2MP to an even 2MP.

The other changes are less noticeable. As is the trend with Android devices, the display on the Moto G has been extended from 4.5 inches to 5 inches. The resolution is still 720p, though, meaning you’ll get a slightly lower PPI. It’s barely noticeable however, and most will probably be glad to have the extra on-screen real estate.

The processor remains exactly the same (Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz) which is a disappointment, but considering how smoothly the 2013 version of the Moto G runs it shouldn’t be a problem. Plus it keeps the cost down.

The cost is the most important factor after all, and Motorola hasn’t disappointed. The new Moto G is available in stores right now for just £144.99. The dual-SIM variant will be available in the UK for the first time, too, at no extra cost.
