After much speculation, hype and rumour; Fallout 4 is finally coming out. Yes, you read that correctly. The next entry in the massively popular role-playing franchise has been officially announced.

The official website for Fallout 4, the latest instalment in the role playing franchise, came online yesterday and there’s already a pre-order page for Xbox One, PS4 and PC consoles. Last-gen console owners won’t be able to get their hands on the game unfortunately.

There’s very little detail on the main site apart from an image of a rusty old garage housing a mix of futuristic weaponry and 50s-themed items. Diehard fans of the series will instantly spot the bottles of Nuka-Cola, a suit of power armour, a canine companion, decaying trees in the background, an assault rifle and a grinning Vault Boy figurine. A ‘Welcome Home’ message is also laid on top of the image.

Fallout 4 release date and trailer

You’ll want to watch the trailer below to really see the exciting bits. It mixes narrative footage with what appears to be actual gameplay. There are scenes of a fictional version of the US before it was destroyed by a fictional nuclear war, the game’s ravaged, post-apocalyptic setting. Hollywood actor Ron Perlman can also be heard saying: “War never changes,” which has been used in every instalment of the Fallout series. You can also spot the Massachusetts Statehouse’s golden dome, the statue of Paul Revere on horseback and what is possibly a modified version of the USS Constitution. All this suggests that Fallout 4 will be set in and around Boston.

Bethesda, Fallout 4’s developer will be holding its own event at E3, an annual video game conference held in Los Angeles, on June 14 at 7pm PST. They’re likely to reveal more details about the game and the event will be live streamed on YouTube and Twitch TV.

Bethesda has remained tight-lipped about the release date, but the fact you can pre-order the game suggests it could be this year.
