Facebook drops BlackBerry

Facebook will no longer support BlackBerry’s operating system.

BlackBerry users will have to go through Facebook’s mobile website to use it. BlackBerry’s senior marketing manager doe developer relations announced the news in a blog post.

“We are extremely disappointed in their decision, as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds, but at this time, their decision stands,” wrote Gazzola. “Despite this, we have worked hard to ensure that our end-users have the best experience in light of this decision, and we are continuing to search for alternate solutions.”

Gazzola says Facebook will stop supporting “essential APIs” rendering the apps functionless. Currently the Facebook apps is still in the BlackBerry World app store; when Facebook will decide to carry out the cull, is yet to be confirmed. It isn’t too surprising to see this happen with Facebook-owned WhatsApp, dropping support earlier this month.
