Netflix want to stop you from accessing content not available to you.

Bingeing on Family Guy for the third time? Well you may want to push a but more to get it done. When Netflix first launched their services it was only available in certain countries at first. Resulting in people looking for ways to access the service immediately, and that was through proxy servers and virtual private networks to trick Netflix into thinking you were in a country that had access.

Currently Netflix is available in over a hundred territories but users continue to use proxy servers to access content not available in their own territory. Netflix aren’t going to burst through the screen and beat you Stewie Griffin style for more money, instead they’ll quietly work hard to make your proxy servers useless.

“This technology continues to evolve and we are evolving with it. That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. We are confident this change won’t impact members not using proxies.” said Vice President of Content Delivery Architecture, David Fullagar.

Netflix may be putting in more of an effort for a controlled experience, but when there’s a will, there’s a way.
