The Dalai Lama has joined Instagram, and it’s pretty great

In the battle of spiritual tech heavyweights, the Dalai Lama has just dunked clean over His Holiness Pope Francis. @Pontifex  may have joined Twitter first, but the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso has beaten him to join Instagram. That’s right.

As a matter of fact the former Nobel Peace Prize winner has already posted 16 photos to his account, and with his busty schedule you can expect plenty more to come. A figure so revered and so constantly appearing in public, it actually makes a strange sort of sense that the Tibetan Buddhist head monk should have an Instagram account.

After a year or so expect it to look as much like a who’s who of celebrity meetings than anything else – the Dalai Lama has already managed to post snaps of himself with chat show icon Larry King and the President of the United States Barack Obama himself.

Anyone care to bet who his first selfie will be alongside? Or maybe his first meal filtered in Kelvin?
