Getting a new phone is almost like a tradition for many. The phone you bought a year ago has just started lagging behind those of your friends’ and the thought of upgrading this essential gadget immediately sparks in your mind. Not even that, but phones today can make up for great gifts for the loved ones. Let it be the Valentine’s or the mother’s day, no one would refuse a mobile upgrade. But will that make you break the bank? Probably not and here is why.
When the touchscreen smartphones entered the market, only the fortunate few could get them. Despite their exclusivity, the features were not even that diverse. The important thing is that such phones, capable of performing so many different operations, do not even have to be expensive.
The increased competition among the manufacturers and the diversification of mobile device lines led to the current large mid-range market. Some of the most well-known brands are now trying to establish themselves in this price niche, which is quickly gaining momentum.
One might say that mid-range phones existed before as well and that is true. However, trust in them was initially low. And that is understandable since even the high-end flagships had visible flaws back in those days.
Gladly, whether for yourself or as a generous, brilliant gift, mid-range price phone options are better than ever before. We have gathered some of our early 2020 favourites below.
Samsung Galaxy A51
The Galaxy A51, a recent launch from Samsung is the updated version of the 2019 Galaxy A50. This is an exceptionally streamlined, great phone that comes at a fairly affordable price of roughly $390. The device has gained popularity in the United Kingdom, due to its abilities that correspond well to the cost. This Samsung phone is enough to perform simple activities. One of such becoming increasingly popular is ways to book an escape room in London from your mobile device along with other means of entertainment. It has a 6.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology. It is incredibly light at only 172 g, has a 3.5mm headphone jack and can be purchased in both mono and dual-sim versions. The Octa-core 2.3 GHz processor will easily manage to handle any operation one might need. Internal storage comes in a variety of configurations – 64GB 4GB RAM, 128GB 4GB RAM or 128GB 6GB RAM. The camera set up is impressive as well. The main, 4 camera configuration consists of 48 MP wide-angle, 12 MP ultrawide, 5 MP macro and another 5 MP depth sensor lenses. Moreover, the device has a built-in fingerprint sensor on the screen, which is quite fast at responding.
All in all, this phone would be a brilliant purchase within this price range for anyone. Whether it is a gift or not – it certainly is a great value for this amount.
Xiaomi Mi 9
Widely acknowledged as 2020’s best mid-range flagship phone, the Chinese device is a superb value for every cent it costs. It is very light at 173 g and has a 6.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with the Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The phone comes with Qualcomm’s latest chipset, the Snapdragon 855. A rare feature in this price range – wireless charging is also included in this spectacular device. The rear 3 camera set has a primary 48 MP wide as well as 12 MP telephoto and 16 MP ultrawide lenses, guaranteeing the great quality pictures. It also comes in a few different memory configurations: 64GB 6GB RAM, 64GB 8GB RAM, 128GB 6GB RAM, 128GB 8GB RAM or 256GB 8GB RAM.
Importantly, whichever you choose, this phone will surely be a great gift for anyone looking for great performance, good photo quality and a beautiful smartphone.
OnePlus 7T
A little heavier than the two above, OnePlus 7T boasts a 6.55 inch Fluid AMOLED capacitive touchscreen accompanied by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Qualcomm’s SM8150 Snapdragon 855+ chipset offers undeniably powerful performance and can be purchased in two configurations: 128GB 8GB RAM or 256GB 8GB RAM. It also features an under-display optical fingerprint, which is responding quite fast. One really valuable thing about this phone is its battery performance as the device comes with a Non-removable Li-Po 3800 mAh battery, guaranteeing a long life.
However, its flaw is the 3 camera featuring rear set. Although the phone comes with an impressive 48 MP primary wide lens along with 12 MP telephoto and 16 MP ultrawide autofocus lenses, its performance is still not the best within this price range. However, pictures still come out great under daylight and would satisfy anyone with the need to post beautiful Instagram stories.
Google Pixel 4a
Well, this last phone has not yet been released. Google surprised the public by announcing another budget version of its flagship Pixel phones’ line. The device will likely be launched in May at the I/O 2020. Very few details are known for now, but Google is expected to stick with its weird, yet slick design. After a lot of discussion around Pixel 4’s poor battery performance, Google is expected to boost it with the budget configuration. This was the case with Pixel 3a as well. It is fairly easy to improve battery life for budget phones as their demand for power is much less compared to the flagships.
Whether your loved one has a birthday in May or whether you want to buy your mother a great mother’s day gift, Pixel 4a is certainly worth the wait.
