Asus unveils 6-inch FonePad Note

At Computex 2013, Asus took to the stage to reveal the latest in its line of tablets which double as a phone.

The Asus FonePad Note is a 6-inch tablet with a 1080p resolution screen, 2GB of RAM, a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and an 8 megapixel camera all included. What’s special about this device though, is that it also has a 3G antenna (no 4G I’m afraid) so you can make voice calls directly from your tablet — just like the original FonePad, which was announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.

Asus’ chairman Jonney Shih also noted that the tablet will launch with Android 4 on-board, but failed to mention whether or not it was the latest build.

This device is a little smaller than the original FonePad, coming in at only 6 inches as opposed to 7, so you’ll look slightly less stupid with it up to your face, but only slightly.  Unlike the original FonePad it will also have dual speakers and come bundled with a stylus — hence the note name, although we don’t think Samsung will be very happy.

Shih has promised that the device will come bundled with software to take advantage of the stylus — so expect a lot of drawing and memo taking apps to come pre-loaded.

There has been no word of pricing or availability just yet, but if the original FonePad is anything to go by, I doubt you’ll need to sell a kidney.
