With typical Apple over statment Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing Philip Schiller told the audience at the Apple launch of the A5 chip-powered iPad Mini “What can you do with an iPad Mini that you can’t already do with the amazing fourth generation iPad? You can hold it in one hand. This isn’t just a shrunken iPad it is an entirely new design where every detail is exquisitely made and crafted. There is nothing as amazing as this. So incredibly thin and light.

“’iPad Mini is as thin as a pencil and as light as a pad of paper, yet packs a fast A5 chip, FaceTime HD and 5 megapixel iSight cameras and ultrafast wireless€•all while delivering up to 10 hours of battery life,” said Schiller.

iPad Mini is 7.2 mm pencil-thin and weighs just over half a pound. The 7.9-inch display is claimed to have have 35 percent more screen real estate than seven-inch tablets and 67 per cent more usable viewing area. The device has a front-facing FaceTime HD camera and a five megapixel iSight camera on the back. It can record full HD video. The iSight camera includes video image stabilisation. Both cameras feature backside illumination for low light photography. Wi-fi capabiiity is dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi support for speeds up to 150 Mbps. Apple says this is twice the Wi-Fi performance compared to previous iPad models.Apple also used the event to launch an updated “Large” iPad just seven months after the last refresh. The new fourth generation iPad features the new Lightning connector, 9.7-inch Retina display and a new A6X chip offering twice the the CPU performance and up to twice the graphics performance of the A5X chip with 10 hours of battery life. Other new features include a FaceTime HD camera, twice the Wi-Fi performance when compared to previous iPad models and support for additional LTE carriers worldwide.e iPad Mini costs from £269 (Wi-Fi 16GB) up to £529 (Wi-Fi and 3G 64GB) when it goes on sale November 2.

Pundits on several tech forums hinted that the iPad Mini would only be around in its current state for six months before Apple revised it with a Retina display and A6 chip.

“If they would have introduced the mini ar $200 or even $250, it would have crippled iPad 3 sales and resulted in far less profits overall. By introducing the much improved iPad 4 along with the $230 mini, they’re going to continue to make exceptional profits on both. Better products, better sales, better profits! That’s every companies dream”, said “Jhankwitz” on the reliable and authoritative http://www.macrumors.com.
