Apple announces iPhone 3G S at WWDC09

The latest addition to the iPhone family has now been announced – the 3G S.

It retains the standard exterior design, but has a range of new features;

  • Preloaded with iPhone OS 3.0 (available to existing 2G and 3G iPhone users from June 17th)
  • 3-megapixel autofocus camera with tap to focus
  • Faster processor
  • Support for 7.2Mbps HSDPA (hence the ‘S’ in the product name)
  • Switch to swap between camera mode and video – with VGA capture at 30 frames per second
  • Voice control – tell the phone what to do, or who to call
  • Digital (electronic) compass
  • Data encryption & remote data wiping
  • Accessibility options (improved contrast mode etc)
  • Increased battery life: 9 hours Internet, 10 hours Video playback, 30 hours music playback, 12 hours GSM talktime or 5 hours 3G talktime
  • Eco-friendly design and components
  • US$199 SRP for 16GB version, US$299 SRP for 32GB version
  • Black and white versions
  • Low cost option: 8GB version (current model) down to US$99
  • New models on sale in USA and UK from June 19th 2009
  • New models on sale in other countries from June 26th 2009
