Gingerbread may be a 2.5 year old version of Android, but according to the latest user statistics, it still holds the crown as the most used iteration of Google’s operating system.
Jelly Bean, the latest version of Android, is still creeping up though, with it looking increasingly likely that this month will be the last month we see Gingerbread on top, passing the crown over to Jelly Bean — almost a year since it was announced at Google I/O.
Currently Gingerbread is installed on 36.5% of all Android devices, whilst Jelly Bean has grown 4.6% in the last month to a total of 33%. Ice Cream Sandwich, Donut, Eclair and Froyo all accounted for little under 30.5% of installations.
With so many users still on an older version of the OS, it’s surprising that app developers have decided to ditch them so soon.
