Android 5.0 beta now available on Huawei Mate 2

After announcing back in November 2014 that the Huawei Mate 2 would be upgraded to Android 5.0 in Q1 2015, the company has today opened up registrations for people to try out the new operating system.

While there’s few details to share at this moment in time, the official announcement suggests that the new OS will come with an updated version of Huawei’s custom Emotion UI. We can expect all of the enhancements that the usual 5.0 update brings such as Material design and better multitasking, but with those distinct changes that the Emotion UI brings.

As it is beta, it does mean that the operating system may still have some bugs. However, as the official release date was set for Q1 2015, I’m assuming it will be a late beta release that is relatively close to RTM. Still, it’s advisable to proceed with caution. If you want to try it out, head to the Huawei community page and leave them a comment expressing your interest.
