Acer today introduced a whole host of touch-enabled products, including the Liquid S1, Iconia W3 and an update to its S7 and S3 notebooks. However, the company is not yet satisfied with the amount of products it has which include a touchscreen, according to its Chairman J.T Wang in an interview with Reuters.
The company expects that 80% of its products will be touch-enabled by 2015 — with Wang saying that the price and supply of touch panels is currently providing restraint, but he is hopeful for that to change in the near future.
Sales of notebooks have plummeted in recent years, mainly due to the introduction of tablets such as the iPad. Market research firm Gartner recently revealed that there had been a significant drop, with sales reaching their lowest point since Q2 2009.
Wang is optimistic however, noting that whilst notebook sales may be declining, the combined notebook and tablet PC industry is expected to grow 10-15%. Acer itself managed to shift 1.2 million tablets in the period between January – March 2013, with the company hoping to reach 5 to 10 million in sales by year end.
