We’ve been seeing contracts get cheaper and cheaper, although the recent announcement from Orange with its £5 tariff had a catch – a 36-month (3 year) contract. Ouch!

3 is now offering a ‘SIM ZERO’ contract for £0 per month, with a simple 30 day notice period. The catch is that there’s no inclusive calls or texts to other landlines or mobile users, but you will enjoy unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messaging.

In fact, while you’ll have to pay for other calls and texts (20p per minute for calls, 10p per text or 30p per megabyte of data), low users can still benefit from not having to use up an allowance for the sake of it.

Users can make up to 75 minutes of calls (or send 150 texts) and pay £15 – the same as a pretty average contract. But, if you don’t make any calls for a while then you can enjoy a bill that is much lower – or nothing at all!

Free voicemail is also included while in the UK and customers only need to give a single month notice if they choose to end the contract – although, there will be little need to do so if you can still use Skype and IM for no cost!
