Mobile gaming is an industry that only keeps getting bigger. Games act as a perfect companion for those stressful morning commutes or short journeys. However, with the wealth of titles on offer it can be a little daunting to separate the good from the bad.

Just as we did last week, here’s our rundown of the top 5 best free mobile games for June 1st – June 7th:

Blades of Brim (iOS only)

Joining the saturated genre of endless running titles, Blades of Brim manages to stand out from the crowd with its fantastic gameplay and accessibility. While it doesn’t offer anything especially new to the genre, it refines the genre to near-perfection for a very enjoyable experience. Procedurally generated levels offer a unique experience each play though and there’s plenty of collectibles to pick up during each run, meaning you’ll be beating personal bests for weeks to come.

Ember Conflict (iOS only)

Ember conflict is a simplified Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that feels like it was designed for mobile devices. As a halfway point between a traditional RTS and a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), there’s no base building or large-scale unit control. You directly control a trio of units which expands throughout the level as you recruit reinforcements. Each unit has a particular skill or talent, adding in a puzzle element which amounts to a rock-paper-scissors scenario. Pick your best units for the correct enemies and you’ll win, otherwise you won’t.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper (Android and iOS)

Final Fantasy Record Keeper is a strange title. At first glance, it doesn’t feel like you’re playing an RPG at all, but delving deeper into the title reveals that this is a highly nostalgic homage to the history of the franchise. As a novice record keeper in charge of all the Final Fantasy history, you discover an evil presence washing over the archives and corrupting certain paintings which document the past. It’s your task to venture inside these paintings and relive those moments, all in glorious 8bit fashion with those classic realtime-battle sequences.

Radical Rappelling (Android and iOS)

Coming from veteran mobile games developer Halfbrick, this game combines simple controls with the deceptively hard game mechanic of rappelling down a cliff-face. After picking a male or female character, you’re tasked with avoiding obstacles and completing tricks as you descend the numerous icy mountains throughout the game. Holding your thumb on the screen causes the character to fall, while lifting your thumb stops you from moving. Completing tricks fills up an energy bar that allows you to descend faster. That’s it. Sound easy? Well you’re in for a shock in later levels…

Terminator Genisys: Revolution (Android and iOS)

To coincide with the release of the film (which hits theatres July 1st), Terminator Genisys has hit mobile platforms with a bang. Bringing third person combat set in the year 2028, you play as John Connor who is battling to escape a Skynet prison camp and save humanity. With hundreds of weapons to choose from, you’ll be battling through various post apocalyptic locations as you level up and meet key resistance members from the films. This is a great movie tie-in that doesn’t feel like a simple cash-in.
