The consumer electronics market is shifting, and tech-savvy users are starting to prefer convenience over other product features. It should come as no surprise that we’ve also seen an increase in the use of smartphone cameras, alongside decreases in the popularity and sales of compact cameras. With smartphone manufacturers constantly working on improvements and advancing technological capabilities, we’re seeing smartphone cameras become more and more capable.

Camera disruptor Light has decided that its next big step is to integrate its own camera technology into a smartphone. What has set Light apart from other camera companies was their creation of the L16 camera. This is a camera with 16 lenses and a 52-megapixel resolution, making capturing high-quality photos more convenient and portable for users. With the recent $121 million investment from Softbank Vision Fund and Leica, Light is hoping to release their latest technological feat as soon as the end of this year. The smartphone camera will have between five to nine lenses with the capability of taking 64-megapixel images. With these specifications, Light is hoping to surpass other smartphone companies who have also added technological advancements into their cameras.

Huawei, who is also a partner with Leica, debuted their advanced smartphone technology earlier this year. With their dual lens smartphone technology, Huawei incorporated this into the P20 (check out our review of the P20 here). Huawei also debuted their P20 Pro which has a tri-lens technology and the ability to take 40-megapixel images.

Technology company LG has also integrated the multiple lens trend into their products. LG recently released their latest smartphone, the V40, that incorporates a tri-lens camera on the back with two camera sensors in the front.

With several phone companies integrating high-tech camera features into their products, multiple lens smartphone cameras are sure to be the next trending technological advancement.
