Apple Inc has been releasing iPhones every year since 2007. The iPhone series has a whole line of smartphones designed on the iOS mobile operating system.

iPhone Series Releases

In June 2007, the manufacturer released its first-generation 2G iPhone. This was the first smartphone that the company designed and marketed. They said this was only the beginning as they were looking to reinvent the Smartphone market.

The company had been working on the project in secrecy for two years. It was the first archetype of all smartphones in the market today; being the first to drop buttons and stylus for a touch-based user interface.

In June 2008, the firm released the iPhone 3G as the second-generation iPhone. It featured turn-by-turn navigation, push email and an iPhone OS 2.0 operating system that introduced the App Store.

The third-generation iPhone 3G was released in June 2009. It featured a new voice control ability, high resolution camera, video ability and superior speed and performance.

The iPhone 4 fourth-generation iPhone was released on June 2010 with new hardware features and the slimmest smartphone design ever. It also introduced Apple Retina Display, A4 System on Chip, iOS 4, Apple’s Facetime Video Chat and the front-facing camera.

The manufacturer released the iPhone 4S fifth-generation iPhone in October 2011. It was the final iPhone to be made under the leadership of CEO Steve Jobs, who died the following day after its announcement. It was named S, which is short for Siri, the first intelligent personal assistant that is now included in all later generations of the iPhone.

The sixth-generation iPhone 5 was released on September 2012 under CEO Tim Cook’s leadership. He has since set a trend to announce all other releases in the months of September.

In September 2013, the seventh generation iPhone 5S was released together with a lower counterpart, the iPhone 5C. This was the first time the manufacturer released two iPhones at once.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were released on September 2014 as the eight generation iPhones.

The two were later replaced by the ninth generation iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S plus as the iPhone series flagships in September 2015. The ninth-generation iPhones featured the slogan ‘bigger and bigger’ because they featured a larger display than all the other previous iPhones.

The company released the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus in September 2016 as their tenth generation iPhone. The two featured a design similar to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s with only a few minor hardware and software modifications.

The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are the eleventh-generation iPhones. They were released on September 2017 and November 2017 respectively. Their design was particularly similar to that of the tenth generation.

The twelfth-generation iPhone XR was released in September 2018. They also released iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which had a much higher price tag than the iPhone XR. The reception was positive for the XR model, which is Apple’s best selling model.

The iPhone 11 is the most recent iPhone to be released, in September 2019. It is similar to iPhone XR with few modifications under the slogan ‘just the right amount of everything.’

Is Time To Slow Down Releases For The iPhone Series?

Since the eighth-generation, the iPhones modifications on hardware and software started to reduce significantly. The ninth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth generation iPhone releases have strikingly familiar features.

Therefore, the answer to the question as to whether these iPhone releases are one too many is yes. However, no matter how slight the device’s modifications are, the iPhone hype builds up every year with every new release. Serial customers are likely to continue buying iPhones as long as the manufacturer continues to make them.

Available models for sale are found almost everywhere in the world. People can buy iPhones on authorised outlets or online platforms like sell my mobile and compare my mobile for fair prices on refurbished iPhones.
