Addicted to Channel 4 show Come Dine With Me? Fancy yourself as a participant? Hopefully you’re not dislikeable enough. But if you’re planning a Come Dine.. style round of dinner parties with friends, the show’s official app will be really useful.

It helps you plan the party, pick some recipes and create a shopping list – complete with wine-matching tool. However, it also lets your guests give you TV-style scores, with a soundboard section providing 50 suitably sarcastic quotes from the show’s commentator Dave Lamb. It’s very well done, with genuinely helpful cookery info as well as the fun stuff.

Not so much an app as a new way of interacting with your phone, 8pen is a bold new alternative to virtual keyboards. The developer makes the case that today’s touch-typing solutions are awkward and unnatural (no arguments here), and that 8pen is the result of starting completely from scratch.
